Traditional Martial Arts

What We Do

Kata

Kata (literally "dance or form") is a pattern of martial arts movements typically practiced alone.  They are practiced as a way to memorize and perfect striking and blocking movements.

Kobudo

Kobudo ("ancient way") is the practice of using weapons for self-defense purposes.  Weapons include:

  • Bo (fighting staff)
  • Nunchaku
  • Tonfa (side handles baton)
  • Sai (trident sword)

Kumite

Kumite (literally "grappling hands") is the practice of free sparring.  In Kumite, you develop fighting skills by sparring with other opponents in a competitive but safe setting using protective gear and pulling punches to avoid injury.

Kihon

Kihon is a Japanese term that refers to the basic techniques and fundamentals of karate. It includes, stances (Dachi waza) strikes (Zuki Waza), Block, (Uke Waza), kicking (Geri Waza) it is the foundation for all subsequent learning. Beginners start with one technique and then learn combinations. Students practice Kihon repeatedly so it becomes second nature and is fluid. Kihon is essential for developing proper form, balance, speed, power, coordination, strength and rhythm, timing and proper breathing
